Welcome to Balance Self-Care :)
Welcome to Balance Self-Care: A Sanctuary for Mental Wellness
Welcome to Balance Self-Care! This initiative began in 2020, around the start of the pandemic. During a time of significant uncertainty, trauma, isolation, and lifestyle changes, Balance Self-Care emerged as a beacon of hope and support.
At that time, I was living with two roommates whom I had just met six months prior, and I was far from my family. Fortunately, we got along well and started spending a lot of time in nature and socializing together. My sense of well-being began to improve rather than diminish. Slowly, I realized it was because I was actually taking care of myself—I was practicing self-care.
This realization marked the birth of “Balance Self-Care.” It was during this period that I began to delve into the concept of self-care and its origins. My exploration led me to literature by and about members of the Black Panthers, which further solidified the vision I was creating.
Self-care is not selfish. It is not just bubble baths and shopping sprees. Self-care is a lifestyle. Simply put, as Angela Davis said: “Anyone who’s interested in making change in the world also has to learn how to take care of herself, himself, themselves.”
Our Approach
At Balance Self-Care, we employ a strengths-based, client-centered, and trauma-informed approach in our practice. We offer therapeutic services, wellness workshops, and presentations.
We provide a safe environment and promote the idea that self-care is not just one activity but a way of life. It is something we do to continue moving forward.
